Send (); }); / ** / Should try to change the way of looking at school education. We usually think of a school in the long career of children – overcome these successive stages of education, reaching some arbitrarily established standards, they go on to another school, school leavers and … then perhaps appear disappointment – that this idealized world that promised us a school does not exist . And you have to handle yourself in it and learn everything from scratch. And then these our “adult children” have a completely different look at the school. Professor Margaret Żytko Departments of Education of the University of Warsaw, Hanna Zielinska was a guest in the program “Adult children” in TOK FM. Although the intention of the conversation was devoted to the latest book by Ken Robinson “Creative school”, most attention was devoted to bottom-up changes that are possible and taking place in Polish schools. “In fact, our very educational need knowledge and awareness of what we strive for in schools” – said prof. Żytko. “Generally, we are preparing for the labor market. Man goes all the way and it turns out that at the end, however, does not have this happiness. The school has introduced us in the channel, in a vision, which adopted the creator of the system. “Judging from the data on the unemployment rate of young people aged 15-24 years in Poland, it is not just a threat, because it is a social phenomenon already known and dangerous. Only continue to do this we do not. Meanwhile, the school should develop the capacity of young man to teach him to learn to keep supplement knowledge, and prepare it to cope in different situations in life. We should change the system thinking, how should a school function. But it is not only a task for system developers, but also for teachers and parents, because actually these two groups can – working together – to contribute to a real qualitative change in education. “First, we must make a critical assessment of the system and move away from the belief that they found the reality of education is the same.” – says prof. Żytko. One way is to build around a specific problem, the challenge, the network of teachers who seek to change. A good example comes from Bydgoszcz, in which a few years ago created the so-called. Bydgoszcz bubble, entering itself the goal of changing the approach to mathematics education. “Mathematics is a puzzle, and it turns out that taught in the schools to solve the tasks imposed by one of the process.” – notes prof. Żytko. In Bydgoszcz teachers who understood the need for change, they began to create a network of collaboration to teach math better. Initially, there were 19, and today is already cooperating network of approximately 100 people. It turned out that the change in the method of teaching can bring positive changes – a lot longer offers a departure from imposing solutions, because children can also participate in the creation of knowledge. Another positive example is Superbelfrzy – not only to exchange ideas on how to improve the quality of teaching, learning from each other, but also to support mentally. As a result, ideas tested in one school can be replicated in the other, and everything is done for the benefit of children. “Polish teacher is still accountable for the implementation of the curriculum. This requires direct supervision, unfortunately, that the base was carried out, and often the teacher writes something else in the log, and another is doing. “- said prof. Żytko. Even if formally this is a misinterpretation of the provisions of the curriculum, the actual supervision over the work of the teacher brings teaching to “tick” theme in the log, and this often requires from teachers pseudoewaluacji, confirming that the program was realized that no one is “not stuck” . In addition to the teachers, the parents may seek to qualitative change. Unfortunately – as noted by prof. Żytko – parents often are “accustomed to a traditional school, worked with manuals and can therefore not surprising their practice of teachers who, for example. Forgo manual. Often subconsciously they require standards that are close to them. “Therefore, parents also need better informed about the process of contemporary and modern education. Working with teachers, they can really achieve very much. Parents are represented in the school (the Parent Council, School Board) – may seek to change in favor of quality education in schools. Teachers, parents, students (and graduates) – Cooperation between these entities is necessary and possible. There is much to do in school. Wise heads of schools – a lot depends on them – can initiate such cooperation for a better school. With this approach, we can also look at the way too loud case of six-year compulsory education. I notes prof. Żytko, “age is not a problem, the problem of school quality that we offer and there is a lot to change. Efforts parents should be directed in this direction. In fact, not every school there are suitable conditions for their development. Nastawmy to change schools, and at what age do not go to school. “Let’s listen to the entire conversation on the radio TOK FM: (Note about the author: Marcin Polak is the creator and editor of Edunews.pl, he is engaged in education and social communication, implementing social projects and commercial nationwide and internationally.
